Trent began game fishing off his home surf in the Swansen Newcastle area, north of Sydney, at just 11 years of age. By the time he had turned 13 years of age Trent had caused a stir on the Australian Junior records chart, with 14 records to his name, 5 of which, along with 1 World record, are still current.
In 1992 Trent purchased his own vessel, aptly named 'Wild Child' a 6m Haines Hunter 600R, from which Trent claimed numerous Capture and Tag & Release titles including the still current World Record for a Tiger Shark - 579.5kg (1277lb) caught on 24kg line.
Trent has fished professionally all over Australia, as well as the waters of Nauru and Vanuatu. However for the past 13 seasons Trent has focused his career mainly in the Cairns geographic, including 10 years on the deck as a crewman and the last 3 years as Captain, fishing for Giant Black Marlin in Cairns from September to December each year, before returning home to Newcastle for the Marlin season from December to May.
The 2007 Cairns season was another successful marlin fishing season for Trent and his crew, having caught - 49 black marlin with 12 over 800lb including 1 weighed at 1005lb. Also successful the 2006 and 2005 Cairns seasons saw them catch 63 black marlin with 12 over 800lb, and 77 black marlin with 19 over 800lb, respectively.
